What is the Schroth Method?
The Schroth Method is a non-surgical conservative physical therapy practice for individuals with scoliosis and kyphosis, in all ages and all stages of treatment (non-surgical, pre and post surgery).
The Schroth Method is a sensory motor training program that uses specific exercises and corrective breathing strategies specific to the individuals curve, aiming to elongate the trunk and correct imbalances of the body.
Through the specific exercise and breathing strategies, the inner muscles of the rib cage are strengthened.
The Schroth Method can help to decrease pain, halt or slow down curve progression, improve lung capacity, mobility, and postural stability.
How long are the appointments?
The initial appointment ranges between 1-1.5 hours. For follow up visits, the appointments are 1 hour treatment sessions.
How often do I need to come for Schroth PT?
Your treatment plan depends on several factors, including your goals and your curve type. Your PT may recommend anywhere between 5-20 sessions to teach you the program based on your specific curve, and to enable you to do the exercises at home. After completion of the PT, monthly follow up appointments may be recommended.
What is the cost?
PhysioStudio PT accepts certain insurance plans with several carriers. Please call to verify your insurance information. If you do not have insurance coverage, we offer a self pay rate. Please call PhysioStudio PT to inquire within.
What should I expect for my first session?
During the first session, we will review your history, symptoms, and your goals. We will review your x-ray and do a postural assessment. You will be given recommendations based on your initial evaluation findings. You will begin the program of the Schroth method and learn exercises that you can start to do at home. Please allow 1.5 hours for the first session.
What do I need to bring to my first session?
At least 3 days prior to the first appointment, please send Christine an x-ray picture of your spine (back and side views preferably) as a picture file (jpeg, pdf or png).
Please wear exercise/yoga pants or shorts, and a sports bra or bathing suit with exposed back for women so that your spine can be evaluated.
